تسعى هذه المجموعة من الكتابات لـ تكرم شخصية فذة في مضمار التنمية في الوطن العربي، ليس فقد على الصعيد المعرفي، ولكن، وهو ربما الأهم، على صعيد العمل الدؤوب على أرض الواقع خاصة من خلال دورها القيادي في واحدة من أهم مؤسسات العمل التنموي العربي المشترك: الصندوق العربي للإنماء الاقتصادي والاجتماعي. وليس أدل على قيمة الفقيدة في هذا المضمار من تنوع شخصيات وخلفيات ومواقف محرري الكتاب والمساهمين فيه، كما في زمرة موضوعات الكتاب ذاته، والتي تعكس التنوع بالغ الثراء لاهتمامات "مرفت بدوي" خلال سني حياتها، القصيرة نسبياً، ولكن الحافلة بألوان من العطاء المغني للوطن وللعاملين في حقل التنمية، وفي النهاية لعامة الناس. وعلى سبيل المثال المعبر، ضمناً الكتاب، واحداً من أعمال الفقيدة ذاتها عن موضوع كرست له الكثير من جهدها في جهاد مستمر حتى الممات وهو الربط الكهربائي بين البلدان العربية.
وفي هذه المجموعة المتنوعة والغنية من الكتابات التي ساهم بها خمسة وعشرون مفكراً وخبيراً اقتصادياً، يتجاوز مفهوم التنمية المتبني من قبلهم التعريفات الضيقة والمدرسية للتنمية، ليقارب مفهوم التنمية الإنسانية الذي استقر عليه تقرير "التنمية الإنسانية العربية" التي ساهمت مرفت بدوي في إنجازه وبلورة مفهومه ومحتواه: الحرية، حرية الفرد وحرية الوطن، مقرونة طبعاً بالعدالة الاجتماعية. ونشير أخيراً إلى أن نطاق الكتاب يغطي الوطن العربي بأكمله، كما كانت تأمل الفقيدة وتعمل له.
