"يوميات تاجر بيروتي" سيرة ذاتية في كتاب، يخط عبرها "نقولا إيليا حبيب" مذكراته في زمن بيروت الذهبي عندما كان التاجر "همه الدائم دفتر الذمم والذمة"، حيث يقول: "من صفات تجار بيروت القدامى كلمة الشرف".
وفي هذه السيرة لم يفوت الكاتب شاردة أو واردة من يومياته منذ الطفولة في المدرسة حتى بلوغه سناً متقدمة، يفتخر بماضيه، ويعتز بعصاميته. كتب عن المعاناة التي كابدها إبان شبابه، وأرخ لأسلوب التعامل التجاري وكيفية النقل ووسائله وأساليبه حيث يقول: في تلك الأيام كانت البضائع تأتي في صناديق من الخشب لأن المستوعبات لم تكن معروفة في حينه".
كما أنه لم يغفل حسنات تجار أيام زمان، فذكر الأخوان غصيبة ونوّه بمناقبيتهما حيث راحا يبحثان عنه لتسديد مبلغٍ مستحقٍ له قبل هجرتهما إلى كندا. والأجمل من كل ذلك عندما يسرد كيفية تمرسه في الحياة الإجتماعية وانتدابه من قبل تجار الألبسة المستوردة لمواجهة قرار الحكومة العشوائي لمنع زيادة الضرائب المرتفعة إبان إحدى الحكومات السابقة. فقد أجاد في وصف أسلوب المسؤولين وعدم مبالاتهم في تدبير شؤون الناس.
جملة القول: إن من يقرأ هذه السيرة العطرة، سيتمكن من التعرّف على سر النجاح لهذا الرجل العصامي الذي عدّه كل من عرفه. إنه مدرسة لجيلنا الذاهب كل مذهب من اللامبالاة إن أراد حقاً تحقيق الذات".
