يشكل كتاب "محمد باقر الصدر: السيرة والمسيرة في حقائق ووثائق" عرض تفصيلي وموثق لسيرة الشهيد الصدر منذ الولادة وحتى الشهادة.
يتناول الكتاب حياة هذا المفكر والفيلسوف مؤسس حزب الدعوة الإسلامية في العراق بشكل مفصل وموثق وبالنحو الحولي الترتيبي، وقد اعتمد مؤلفه الشيخ الباحث "أحمد عبد الله ابو زيد العاملي" على مئات المصادر بالعربية والفارسية والانجليزية والفرنسية، ووزعه في خمسة أجزاء.
وفي الكتاب يشرع المؤلف بالتاريخ لأحداث سنة 1353هـ -(1935)- سنة ولادة الشهيد الصدر منتهياً بأحداث (1980)، سنة نيله الشهادة. وفي هذا السياق يعرض الكتاب للأجواء التي رافقت مسيرته الدعوية. من هنا فقد اشتمل الكتاب على تأريخ كامل لمسيرة السيد محسن الحكيم الذي تحرك الشهيد الصدر في فلكه في المرحلة الأولى من حياته، إلى ذلك يعرض الكتاب عرضاً وافياً للعلاقات التي لفت حوزتي النجف وقم، حيث عرض لأمهات الأحداث المرتبطة بهاتين الحوزتين، مظهراً موقف الالتقاء أو الافتراق التي حكمت علاقتهما، والتي كانت تنعكس بدورها على الشهيد الصدر. ومن هنا، سيجد القارئ لهذا الكتاب تأريخاً وافياً لتحركات السيد الخوئي والإمام الخميني بعد وفاة السيد محسن الحكيم، لكن دون الدخول في أي تقييم لأفعال هاتين الحوزتين.
ما يميز الكتاب اعتماد المؤلف على وثائق نادرة مدونة بخط الشهيد الصدر، ووثائق وملفات صوتية للشهيد ومقالات: وأخرى ملفات خاصة بالمخابرات الإيرانية منشورة في إيران إلى غير ذلك من مصادر ومراجع بلغت (1732) مصدراً ومرجعاً.
