إنه "أحمد" رفيق العمر حتى السادسة عشرة، لم أعرف يوماً أن أربط حبل القرابة بيننا بالسلاسة التي تقولها أمي، التي يطلق عليها أهل القرية "المختارة" لمعرفتها القوية بالأنساب. أما أنا فكنت أكتفي بأن "أحمد" صديقي، وهو كذلك..
عندم أخذت طفلي الأول بين ذراعي وطبعت على جبهته القبلة الأولى، ابتسمت له وسميته "أحمد"، وكان ذلك أكثر من شيء طبيعي بالنسبة للجميع لأن أحداً لا يعرف بذلك القابع في زاوية مظلمة من قلبي، وأني في الحقيقة، عندما لهجت باسمع بذاكرتي صورته، صديقي الأسمر وهو بعمر العشر سنوات، يشق معي الوعر غير عابئ بالأشواك التي طالما تركت بصمات حمراء على أرجلنا وأيدينا، وسمعت رنة ضحكته وهو يرمي الماء على وجهي في النهر، قبل أن نتسابق في السباحة حتى يستوطن التعب مفاصلنا، ونغفو ليلاً حتى قبل أن نكمل مضغ لقمة الطعام وبلعها.. لقد كان أسرع مني في كل شيء الركض، والسباحة، والنوم أيضاً...
