يأتي هذا الكتاب نتيجة لمعايشة حثيثة من قِبل مؤلفه حمودي مصطفى جمال الدين لواقع بلاده السياسي (العراق) بعد سقوط نظام الرئيس العراقي الأسبق صدام حسين (2003) وحتى العام (2013) . في ظل هذا الواقع الجديد عمد المؤلف كما يقول "إلى تدوين بعضاً من هذه الأحداث على شكل مدونات ومعالجات نقدية وتحليلية متوخياً من ورائها خير العراق واستقراره". وبغية تحقيق هذا الغرض تم تقسيم الكتاب إلى عديد من الأبواب التي شملت الحالة السياسية عموماً في البلاد؛ كما شملت التحدث بشكل مقتضب عن المؤسسة العسكرية العراقية وماهية الإخفاقات والنجاحات التي لحقت بها ابتداءً منذ تأسيسها في العشرينات من القرن المنصرم مروراً بحلّها على يد الحاكم المدني لسلطة الإحتلال (بول بريمر) ومن ثم تشكيلها حتى العام 2013، إلى ذلك، تتناول أبواب الكتاب الإشكالات التي حدثت في العلاقات الخارجية للدولة العراقية الحالية ومدى التصدعات في هذه العلاقات والمحيط الإقليمي، كما تناولت رؤى متفرقة للمؤلف حول سياسات عراقية مفروضة ومنها الإشكاليات التي خلفتها الأحزاب السياسية للمرحلة المدروسة.
ويختتم الكتاب بعرض لسيرة حياة والد المؤلف الشاعر المرحوم الدكتور مصطفى جمال الدين الذي اعتبره الإبن / المؤلف "مثلاً للشاعر والإنسان النهضوي والفكري والسياسي المتطلع لنظام ديمقراطي تحرري ينهجه العراق ...".
