قد حاولت في هذا الدليل تقديم مفاهيم البحث العلمي وطرائقه بلغة مبسطة وموجزة قدر المستطاع، وتجنبت الخوض في القضايا ذات الطبيعة النظرية والفلسفية، وامتنعت عن الإسهاب على أمل ان يزيد ذلك من مقروئية الدليل ويشجع القرّاء على الإطلاع على كل ما جاء فيه لإعتقادي بان أحد الأسباب التي تكمن وراء العزوف عن قراءة مراجع البحث العلمي بل وعدم إستيعاب الكثير من مفاهيمه نزعة معظم المؤلفين للكتابة بطريقة رسمية معقدة يصعب فهمها وبأسلوب جامد يفقد بسببه القارئ الإهتمام والدافعية.
ولا أزعم أنني جعلت هذا الدليل مشوقاً، لكن ما أحاول قوله هو أنه كان ماثلاً أمامي وأنا أكتب القرّاء ذوو الخلفيات المتباينة بشكل واسع، معرفياً وبحثياً.
ومع أن هذا الدليل أعدّ لمساعدة كل من طلبة الماجستير والدكتوراه، إلا أن رسالة الماجستير تختلف نوعياً عن أطروحة الدكتوراه وقد بينت أهم تلك الفروق في الجزء الاول من هذا الدليل.
ومع أنني وجّهت كثيراً من الإنتقادات للطقوس غير العلمية التي أصبحت تميز نسبة كبيرة من الرسائل الجامعية العربية، لا أنكر أن ثمة طلبة متميزين حولنا بالتأكيد، لكنني لست متأكداً من أننا نقدّم لهم الدعم الكافي ولا أقول نتبناهم علمياً في جامعاتنا العربية كما هو الحال في الجامعات العريقة.
فالشيء الوحيد الذي استطيع القول إنني متأكد منه تماماً أن الدراسات العليا بما فيها الرسائل الجامعية في دولنا العربية بالكاد تحقق الحد الأدنى من الجودة.
