إذا كان الشعر معبراً إلى عوالم النفس وفضاءاتها، فإنه في ذات الوقت يعد وسيلة كاشفة عن انسيابات الدواخل مكنوناً واتجاهاً، وخاصة حين الحديث عن آلام الفقد، فهو بذلك يمثل قيمة أخلاقية تبوح بها أخيلة الشعراء، والشاعرحسن الزهراني بدا في نصوصه الشعر كوسيلة للتحرر من الألم، الألم الذي لم يختاره ولكنه وقع – برحيل أمه- وها هو يرثيها حزناً في "ريشة من جناح الذل".
تحت عنوان "لا انت مِتُ ولا أنا حيّ" يقول الشاعر:" شهران والدمع في خدي يستبقُ/ وهجتي من غدير الهمّ تغتبق/ شهران مُذ مِتِّ يا أمي وقافيتي/ خرساء يسري بها في ليلة القلق/ شهران مرَّا وليل البؤس مُنصلِتُ والنفس تعصرها الأحزان والحرق (...)".
يضم الكتاب اثنتي عشر قصيدة تتراوح بين الشعر العربي الحر والشعر العامودي جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية:" الشمعة"، "الصباح الفاجعة"، "إنصات"، "من أين لي من بعدها قلب؟"، "قبر بين الجوانح"، "اندهاش"، "لا انت مت ولا أنا حي"، "من الثرى إلى الثريا" (...) إلخ.
