كان الفيل "جمجم" يظن أن شكله الضخم بأذناه الكبيرتان وقوائمه العريضة وخرطومه الطويل هو سبب نفور حيوانات الغابة منه، فهو لم ينجح في إقامة صداقة معهم، ما جعله حزيناً ويائساً، ولكنه لك يعرف أيضاً أن تلك الأذنان والقوائم والخرطوم سيكونان عوضاً له لإنقاذ تلك الزرافة المتأنقة وذاك الغزال الرشيق "ريمي" والكلب الودود "غمروش"، وكذلك العصفور "ساكو".
ففي يوم من الأيام وبينما صديقنا "جمجم" يمشي في الغابة سمع استغاثة الكلب غمروش وقد وقع في بركة ماء موحلة، فأنقذه بخرطومه، أما العصفور "ساكو" لولا أن خلصه "جمجم" من العليق الكثيف الفروع والأوراق لما قوي على التفلت والطيران وكذلك فعل مع باقي حيوانات وطيور الغابة.
وهكذا بفضل مساعدته لأصدقائه الغزال ريمي والكلب غمروش والعصفور ساكو أصبح صديقاً للجميع وتخلص من وحدته، ولم يعد ينظر إلى شكله على أنه "شنيعاً" ولم يعد يخافه أحد. إذا راح الجميع يخبرون الأصدقاء عنه وعن حبه لهم، فأصبح الجميع أصدقاء له.
