يستطيع المرء أن يستخدم كلمات وتعابير وجملاً فرنسية صحيحة من حيث اللغة والتركيب. ولكنها ليست فرنسية من حيث الروح! تعتبر الدار التي قامت بنشر هذا القاموس ( الفرنسي - العربي )،إن الفرنسية ليست مجرّد لغة، ولكنها إطار يعتبر عن روحيّة معيّنة، وعن عقلية معيّنة وعن فكر ينطوي في طيّاته الوعي الإجتماعي والإتجاه الإنساني اللذان شقا مع الثورة الفرنسية.
ولايكتفي هذا القاموس بتناول الكلام الفرنسي بل يذهب إلى حدّ التغلغل في روح اللغة الفرنسية، والكشف عن تفاصيلها ودقائقها كما تطوّرت عبر العصور إلى أين أصبحت لغة حديثة. فلقد دخلت في صلب الفرنسية كلماتٌ وعباراتٌ أتت من لغات أخرى واندمجت بها اندماجاً كلياً حتى بات الناطق بالفرنسية لا يعتبرها أجنبية. أمّا مصادر هذه العبارات فمتنوعة ومختلفة، ومن أبزها اللاتنية والألمانية والإنكليزية... وكذلك الطقوس الكنسية أو غيرها من الدجالات الثقافية. يشير ثبت الإشارات المختصرة (abréviation) في أوّل القاموس إلى الجوّ الفنيّ الذي تغذّى من فتنه. فلقد اعتنى المؤلف في الإشارة إلى الجذور التي تكوّن الكلمات( hydo, hydro, hyg, hyl....) مثلاً.
