إيليا الياس الحاوي شقيق الشاعر خليل حاوي
تعلم في المدرسة الابتدائية ببلدة الشوير ثم دخل المدرسة الوطنية العالية البروتستانتية فمدرسة يوحنا الصايغ في الشوير. التحق بدار المعلمين الابتدائية في بيروت ونال شهادته عام 1949. انضم إلى الجامعة اللبنانية وتخرج بإجازة جامعية في الآداب عام 1956.
تتلمذ بالعربية على يد الأستاذ الشاعر نايف نكد الذي وجد في تلميذه الصغير طاقة شعرية فشجعه على النظم وهو بعد على مقاع إيليا الياس الحاوي شقيق الشاعر خليل حاوي

تتلمذ بالعربية على يد الأستاذ الشاعر نايف نكد الذي وجد في تلميذه الصغير طاقة شعرية فشجعه على النظم وهو بعد على مقاعد المدرسة التكميلية. تأثر بعدد من الشعراء والكتاب الذين برزوا على مسرح الأدب في تلك الحقبة وبينهم إبراهيم اليازجي وسعيد عقل وفوزي الملعوف وشفيق المعلوف وخليل مطران.
انصرف إلى التعليم بعد تخرجه من دار المعلمين وتابع في الوقت نفسه تخصصه في الأدب العربي في الجامعة اللبنانية حيث لازم الناقد الفرنسي بيكون ثلاث سنوات وتأثر بمنهجه النقدي المقارن.

هذا هو الكتاب الثالث من سلسلة "الثقافة للجميع" وهو خاص "بالمذهب البرناسي، حيث يعرض الفصل الأول من هذا الكتاب المبادئ والنظريات البرناسية ويقدم نماذج للشعراء الكبار في هذا المذهب. وإن القارئ ليجد في الشعر العربي، قديمه وحديثه، نماذج رائعة من القصائد ذات المنزع البرناسي، ولقد بين الكتاب ذلك في مواضعه، وأكمل دراسة طبائع البرناسية من خلاله. وعلى القارئ ألا يقتصر في فهم الرناسية على المبادئ التي عرضت في الفصل الأول، بل عليه أن يستكمل ذلك في الفصل الثاني، وعبر الشعر العربين لأن الدراسة متكاملة بعضاً ببعض، وما لم يلمح إليه في الشعر الغربي ألح إليه في الشعر العربي.
