تعالج هذه الدراسة جدلية العلاقة بين حركة حماس و"إسرائيل" من خلال تتبع حالة التدافع والصراع التي أدت إلى اتصالات غير مباشرة بين الطرفين متعلقة على الغالب بصفقات تبادل الأسرى، أو اتصالات مباشرة فرضها الاحتلال خصوصاً في السجون الإسرائيلية. وتتعرض الدراسة لهذه الاتصالات والمفاوضات بالتحليل، مع اعتماد المنهج التاريخي بالإضافة للمنهج الوصفي، كما تمّ استخدام المقابلة كأداة من أدوات البحث. وتستقصي الدراسة استراتيجية وسياسة "إسرائيل" تجاه حماس بشكل عام وفيما يتعلق بالمفاوضات بشكل خاص، وتبين لنا موقف حماس من التفاوض مع العدو الإسرائيلي. وقد خلصت الدراسة إلى أن حماس لا ترفض التفاوض من حيث المبدأ، فهي تدرك أهميته كأداة من أدوات التحرر من الاحتلال، ولا يوجد في فكر حماس السياسي ما يمنعها من خوض مفاوضات مباشرة مع الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، لكن يوجد لديها مانع سياسي مرتبط بإدارة الصراع وأولوياته وتقييم المصالح والمفاسد؛ وبالتالي فهي مسألة اجتهادية قد تتعدد فيها الآراء، لكن البنية المؤسساتية لحماس وقيادتها سترجح في النهاية الخيار الأنسب.
