الدعوة إلى الطبيعة هي دعوة إلى إستعمال الماء والهواء والغذاء والدواء النقي الطاهر الذي خلقه الله دون آثار جانبية، ليست دعوة إلى التخلف وإنما الغرض منها كشف باقي الطبيعة من خير لنا للاستفادة منها لنستعيد قوتنا ومناعتنا وصفاء نفوسنا.
وقد قال أبو قراط أبو الطب: ليكن غذاؤك دواؤك وعالجوا كل مريض بنبات أرضه فهي أجلب لشفائه.
وقال ابن النفيس: صحتك في تنظيم غذائك: الله لم يخلق النباتات عبثاً وإنما خلقت لحكمة ولقد مر على الإنسان حيناً من الدهر ظل فيه هدفاً سهلاً للأمراض والأوبئة فاتجه تفكيره إلى أن يستغل ما وهبته الطبيعة من خضروات متنوعة فعرف العلاج بالأعشاب (أول صيدلية) وعرفوا الجزء الفعال في النبات واتجه الانسان إلى حفظه لاستعماله في تحضير ما يلزم لعلاج الحالات ثم أخذ العشابون الصيادلة خطوة جديدة هي استخلاص المواد الفعالة الرئيسية في صورة متبلورة من الأعشاب والنباتات وصنع الأقراص والحقن مثال الأثروبين من نبات البلادونا.
وأصبح مفهوماً في الدوائر العلمية أن التأثير المتكامل لمجموعة المركبات التي يزخر بها النبات الطبي الواحد تماثل فرقة موسيقية كاملة وهي تعزف سيمفونية جميلة.
إن العقاقير النباتية لم تزل تستعمل بحالتها الطبيعية كطب شعبي معروف بسوق العطارين. وقد أصبح الصيادلة والأطباء والمرضى يظرون إلى النباتات الطبية كمصدر هام لهذه المواد المفيدة. وفي كثير من بلاد العالم (أمريكا - الصين - الهند) توجد معاهد مستقلة ومؤسسات ضخمة تضم المئات من العلماء المتخصصين لحصر هذه الثروة النباتية والاستفادة فيها من توافر الدواء من الخامات المحلية.
في هذا الإطار تأتي هذه الموسوعة حيث تقدم شرحاً تعريفياً مسهباً للعديد من الأمراض من ثم تضع طرق علاجها باستخدام الأعشاب والنباتات الطبية.
