"خرجت وجوقة المخبرين وأخذني الحاج إلى زنزانتي، منهاراً، أجرجر رجلي بتا، وهو يقبض على ذراعي، كنت مستعداً لتمديد الأجل مع أي فضاء، دورة الماء بروائحها الكريهة، غرفة التعذيب بسياطها وألوانها السادبة؛ هذا الممر الإسمنتي، المهم أن لا أصل إلى الزنزانة حيث ينتظرني الحجر والخوف والفأر. الخوف الذي تربص بي وأنا أدخل زنزانتي لم يتربص بي وأنا أدخل جامع التعذيب، داهمتني قشعريرة في كل جسدي وأن أرمي برجلي إلى الداخل. الميمة تعالي تشوفي ولدك".
دوّنت "خديجة مروازي" في هذه الرواية محكيات متشابكة؛ تستعيد بها عذابات ذاتها المناضلة، في تصادمها الأزلي مع الحقائق والأوهام. وأخرى تسترجع فيها الفضاءات الأليفة التي شكلت مهبط جميع الأحلام اليائسة والخلاقة، وثالثة تلهب وراء الانهيارت المتدافعة وهي تهجس بالإخفاق والقلق والمرارة... وهكذا لا مكان في هذه الرواية لأي مستقر وجودي يمكن أن يكون مرجعاً أو بداية أو نقطة اتصال بمركز، بل العالم الروائي تشظيات هائمة. ويمكن للقارئ أن يجد في هذا العمل، أكثر من ذلك، إذ يمكن أن يجد فيه بناء سردياً مركباً تنبسط فيه المسارات الفردية أمام الشخوص، ثم لا تلبث أن تتعقد فتتفارق أمام حقائق الحياة، إلى أن تنكشف الاختيارات الرامزة إلى الحرية والانطلاق. في هذه رواية بحثت فيها الرواية عن الخلاص، الذي لن يتحقق إلا في المعاناة ومراجعة الذات وسقوط الفشاوات الوهمية وانفلات اليقين وجفاف لذائذ الحب. السجن يتجسد في هذه الرواية بجسر عبور: من الذات المثخنة بالمعاناة إلى حقائق المعيش، وهذا هو المسار الإجباري الذي تسلكه الأرواح المندفعة نحو المستقبل.
