حين يكتنز الفن بتجربة إنسانية حية يحقق أحد دوريه التاريخيين ونعني به الفائدة، وحين يصوغ هذه التجربة صياغة أدبية يقوم بالدور الآخر –المتعة. وتجربة "يحيى الشيخ" الفنان العراقي، نمت في أرض بكر ورويت من معين صاف، معين الأجداد إنه الفنان الباحث عن كل جميل، يجاذب سوانحه في عالمه الخاص بأدوات فنية بيَنة ومن هنا يمكن تلمس ما طرحته ذائقته الفنية الإبداعية في "سيرة الرماد" وهي ترشح عن ذاتية متفردة، ترقد بين ثناياها ذكريات وأيام مضت يستحضر خلالها المؤلف محطات من حياته لم تعد قائمة إلاَ في الذاكرة. يقول المؤلف في مقدمة كتابه بما يشبه النجوى "... ليس لي مكان مفضل أعاني منه عمراً محدداً، كلاهما المكان والعمر أمسيا حالة واحدة. نسخة سلبية لما كنت عليه، كينونة ماضية، كل ما دونته من يوميات: أفكار ورسائل راحت في تصفياتي للمراسم التي هجرتها، أضعافها كانت التخطيطات ومشاريع الرسم، والكتب. ثلاثة وعشرون مرسماً في حياتي، كانت مأهولة بكل ما احب، تركتها ورائي، كنت أنقذ منها ما كنت أعنقده عزيزاً وما يمكنني حمله، وأهب للنار وللآخرين ما عداه. التفاصيل الصغيرة التي صنعتني والتي لولاها لما كنت، تلك التي غرقت في تأملها وغبت عن ما سواها، الوقائع العابرة التي شكلت الزمن الحقيقي لحياتي، والأشياء...". عناوين الكتاب: "في العراء"، "القيم"، "الخروج"، نداء الأشياء"، "الاستجابات"، "سهيل وقرينة"، "الريش الحي".
