"بغداد خانتني" عنوان قد يصدم مشاعر القارئ العربي، ولكن بطريقة مختلفة بالطبع عن الصدمة والترويع والحقيقة أن المؤلف قد انتزع هذا العنوان من المقطع الأول في قصيدته "بطاقة حب لبغداد التي يذكر المؤلف أنه عند كتابته لها كان يبكي حيث قال: بغداد خانتني وأخفت وجهها عني، لم يبق لي أحد سواها... ما دهاها؟ كيف تفلت كفها مني، بغداد خلتني مع السفهاء والأجراء مغتربين عن حزني بغداد خانتي".
هذا وقد قسم المؤلف الكتاب إلى قسمين، أولهما ضمنه القصائد التي كتبها خلال أيام الحرب ضد العراق، وصدره بقصيدة "غبار على صورة القدس" التي صور من خلالها أجواء المعاناة الفلسطينية، وليس هذا بغريب، فالعراق، متى الاحتلال الأميركي-البريطاني يجثم على ترابه الطاهر هو في قلبي. تماماً ما مثل فلسطين التي يجثم على صدرها الاحتلال الصهيوني العنصرين.
وهناك قصائد أخرى ضمنها لقسم كتابه الأول، ولكنها جاءت على ألسنة شعراء عرب قدامى، حيث جعل امرئ القيس وعنترة بن شداد وابن زيدون والمتنبي يتكلمون، لا عن زمان كل منهم، وإنما عن زماننا نحن، وبعيداً عن هؤلاء العظماء، فإن المؤلف قد جعل "هتلر يتكلم" بنفسه كما رسم ملامح صدام حسين، وفق لمشاعره تجاهه يوم خرج يتجول في شوارع بغداد للمرة الأخيرة، وكأنه كان يلقي نظرة وداع، وهو يرى جمر عمره ينز من النار...
أما القسم الثاني من كتابه فضمنه مجموعة من المقامات التي ارتأى من خلال كتابتها أم يستعيد فن "المقامة" والبطل في مقاماته، هو "مجنون العرب"، وقد أتاحت له هذه الشخصية التي اخترعها أن يعبر عما يود دون قيود داخلية أو خارجية، ومن هذه المقامات "الجواهري والسياب والمجنون... يستجوبون الغزاة الذين يؤسرون " و"الثعلب يقدم أدلة ووثائق... لاتهام الأرنب بأنه مارق" و"السلاحف في المتاحف... والخنزير يكسر الزير"، و"اعتقال حمار.. يتحالف مع الأشرار... لنشر الرعب والدمار"...
