انطلاقاً من حقيقة كون الفيزياء الحديثة التطبيقية تعنى بأحدث ما توصلت إليه الحضارة البشرية المعاصرة في مسيرتها العلمية والتقنية في المجالات المعرفية المختلفة، يسعدنا أن نقدم للقارئ عموماً وللطالب خصوصاً، كتابنا هذا آخذين بعين الاعتبار ما سبق تدريسه، وما سيقدم له من موضوعات متقدمة في سنوات دراسته اللاحقة.
ومن هنا يظهر ما يجب أن يكون عليه هذا المؤلف من سعة في الموضوعات، وتشعب في المفردات مع الإيجاز في الشرح والاختصار في العلاقات الرياضية واشتقاقاتها وبخاصة المعقدة منها كلما أمكن ذلك. والتأكيد على الجوانب التطبيقية والمختبرية التجريبية لتشكل لدى الطالب وحدة معرفية حديثة متصلة في مواضيع الفيزياء كافة.
إن مادة هذا الكتاب جاءت ضمن ثلاثة عشر فصلاً، وكأنها مستقلة عن بعضها بعض الشيء، ولكن إذا أضفنا لها ما كان قد تم تدريسه في المقررات الدراسية السابقة، فإنها تشكل لدى الطالب وحدة معرفية حديثة متصلة في مواضيع الفيزياء كافة، وللمزيد من التقريب والتجانس فقد تم تبويب الكتاب بأربعة أجزاء.
يبحث الجزء الأول منه في فيزياء الذرة والنواة والجزئية والحالة الصلبة، ويعني الجزء الثاني منه بالموجات والموجات فوق الصوتية والموجات الكهرومغناطيسية، أما الخصائص المزدوجة للجسيمات والموجات وميكانيك الكم والميكانيك الإحصائي فقد تم شرحها في الجزء الثالث منه، وضم الجزء الرابع من الكتاب نظرية النسبية وفصلاً أخيراً يبحث في ثلاث موضوعات مختارة هي الليزرات والتصوير المجسم (الهولوكرافي) والبلازما لتزويد الطالب بالمبادئ الأساسية التي تعتمد عليها دراسته الجامعية في صفوف متقدمة.
