يُعتبر علم الجغرافيا في العصر الحاضر علم الثقافة العامة، وعلى كلِّ مثَّقف أن يحصل على قسطٍ وافر منها ليتفهَّم الكثير من الحوادث العالميَّة السياسيَّة والإقتصادية والإجتماعية والعسكريَّة وغيرها.
وقد يكون لهذه الأحداث تأثير مباشر أو غير مباشر في المنطقة التي يعيش فيها، ويُمكن القول أنه لا يُمكن لأية طبقة إجتماعية الإستفتاء من علم الجغرافيا سواء كانت طبقة من المثَّقفين أو السياسيِّين أو العسكريين... إلخ، لذلك اعتبر "سترابو" علمَ الجغرافيا من أعلى علوم المعرفة وهي تزوَّدنا بقسطٍ وافر من المتعة العلميَّة.
وركّزت في مؤلفي على موضوعات في "الجغرافية الإجتماعية" متناولاً المفاهيم والمنطلقات الرئيسية للمجتمعات ومناطق تواجدها، وإلى النمو السكاني كظاهرة عالمية ذات طفرة عالية، وعرجت على مراكز التوطين البشري وصولاً إلى أصل السلالات الإجتماعية البشرية، وتطرقت في فصل موجز عن أنماط لنماذج بشرية لا تزال في عيش بدائي، وخضت داخل الجغرافيا الإجتماعية رابطاً العلاقة بين الإنسان والبيئة في فصل خامس، وختمت ببحث الجدلية الجغرافية السياسية والمشاكل الإجتماعية الدولية في فصل أخير، عسى أن أكون قد حقّقت بعض ما تستحق مجتمعاتنا من المعرفة حول الجغرافيا الإجتماعية وعلاقتها المباشرة بالأرض والإنسان عبر الأزمنة والعصور...
