يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى توضيح جوانب من التراث العلمي العربي الإسلامي بعامة والكشف عن روائعه، كما يهدف كذلك إلى وضع صورة صادقة عن إسهام علماء العرب والمسلمين في العلوم البحتة والتطبيقية، فمن وجهة نظر المؤلف أن الدراسات المختلفة لتراثنا الحضاري في البلاد العربية الإسلامية وغيرها. لا تتعرض للمنهج الذي اتبعه علماء العرب والمسلمين.
كما أتى المؤلف في كتابه هذا على ذكر الإنتاج العربي الإسلامي في الفلسفة والفيزياء والرياضيات والفلك في الفترة مابين القرنين الأول والسابع الهجري وهي الفترة التي كانت فيها أوروبا تغط في سيات عميق، في عصورها الوسطى. كما يبين في دراسته خصائص الحضارة العربية والإسلامية والينابيع العلمية التي نهل منها علماء العرب والمسلمين علومهم البحتة والفلسفة والرياضيات والفيزياء والفلك.
