يشكو وطننا العربي من ضعف التنمية في مختلف مجالات الحياة سواء منها السكانية أم الإقتصادية أم التربوية أم الإجتماعية، وسبب ذلك يعود إلى عوامل متعددة، منها ما يتعلق في ضعف الناتج القومي لكثير من البلدان العربية، والبعض الآخر متصل بتبعية إقتصادات البلدان الأخرى.
ولا بد من إيلاء التنمية المستدامة للموارد العربية الإهتمام الكبير بما يضمن حسن إستثمار الموارد الطبيعية، مع ضمان حاجات الأجيال القادمة في هذه الموارد بما يحقق لهم الرفاهية من خلال عدم تناقض رصيد الموارد الطبيعية بشكل خطير والتعامل بحكمة مع ظاهرة النمو السكاني، مع الحفاظ على سلامة البيئة وإستمرار تنميتها وتحقيقاً لذلك.
يحتوي هذا الكتاب على تسعة فصول خصص الأول منها لمناقشة التنمية المستدامة في الوطن العربي وشروطها، وما ينبغي أن تحتوية من مفردات وخصص الفصل الثاني لمناقشة تأثير العولمة على أختلال التنمية ولما كان الأنسان هو أهم عنصر من عناصر التنمية فقد خصص الفصل الثالث لمناقشة هذا الموضوع، أما الموارد المائية وما لها من أهمية بالغة في العالم بشكل عام والوطن العربي على وجة الخصوص فقد عالج الفصل الرابع كيفية تنمية هذة المواد .
وإختص الفصل الخامس بمناقشة الأمن الغذائي العربي وكيفية تنمية الموارد الطبيعية المؤثرة فية كونة عنصرا مهما من عناصر الأمن القومي العربي . وأهتم الفصل السادس بالبيئة الصحراوية العربية التي تشكل 84% من مساحته، أما الفصل السابع فقد أهتم في أتفاقيات السوق العربية المشتركة منذ الخمسينيات من القرن العشرين واضعا تصورا علميا لكيفية الخروج من هذا المأزق.
ولأهمية الموارد النفطية ومواردها في الوطن العربي وضرورة أستثمارها لخلق تنمية إقتصادية فقد تناولها الفصل الثامن من هذا الكتاب كما حاول الفصل التاسع الأجابة على السؤال هل المطلوب تنمية المناهج التعليمية أم تغييرها؟.
