التاريخ النضالي والفكري للدكتور الياس شوفاني يتحمل أكثر من حوار. سوف يدخل القارئ للحوار المنشور في هذا الكتاب, إلى المهتمين بمتابعة أبحاث الدكتور إلياس شوفاني ومؤلفاته. جوانب كثيرة من تجربة حياته ونضال هو لم يسبق لها أن نشرت أو كتب عنها, يتعرض لها إلياس شوفاني بمتابعة معرض الرد على الأسئلة المطروحة. وهو بذلك يملأ مساحة جديدة بالوقائع والحقائق المرتبطة بتجربته الشخصية, لعلها تلامس ما يراود عدداً واسعاً من المهتمين بتجربته وأفكاره. الإجابات عن الأسئلة أتت واضحة وصريحة وإن كانت مكثفة. فالمحطات كثيرة والتجربة طويلة وغنية بالأحداث والطاقات الفكرية لا يكفي لاتساعها تنوع الحوار المقيد أخيراً إلى دفتي هذا الكتاب. ثمة لحظات دقيقة وحرجة واجهتها الثورة الفلسطينية بعد غزو إسرائيل للبنان عام 1982. ولقد أحيط موقف المؤلف منها بالملابسات. في الكتاب ما يسمح بإزالة كل تلك الملابسات ويجلي الغموض عن حقيقة مواقفه. وإذ يتزامن الحوار مع انتفاضة الأقصى المجيدة, فإن قسطاً من الاهتمام بمجرياتها وآفاقها توفرت عنه ردود إلياس شوفاني على أسئلة محاوريه. لماذا غادر إلياس شوفاني العمل التنظيمي في الحركة الفلسطينية؟ الجواب على ذلك أخذ مكانه بقدر مناسب في الحوار وهو ما سيجده القارئ في أكثر من موقع على صفحات هذا الكتاب.
الياس شكري شوفاني, فلسطيني, مواليد فلسطين 1932 . حاصل على الدكتوراه في تاريخ الحضارة الإسلامية من جامعة برنستن الولايات المتحدة 1968 . باحث في تاريخ فلسطين و قضيتها دمشق 1982 . كتاباته: حروب الردة, طريق بيغن إلى القاهرة, اسرائيل و مشروع كارتر, ....اسرائيل في خمسين عاماً المشروع الصهيوني من المجرد إلى ملموس.
