من المعلوم أن قصيدة "بانت سعاد" لكعب بن زهير بن أبي سلمى كانت قد أنشدت بين يدي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم ونُسب مدحها إليه، وقد اختلفت الروايات عنها، وكثر شرّاحها، وقال بعضهم إنها غير صحيحة في سندها ومتنها، وقال البعض الآخر أنها صحيحة، كل ذلك دفع بمؤلف هذا الكتاب الدكتور سعود بن عبد الله الفنيسان إلى دراستها بالإستناد إلى مصادر الحديث النبوي، وكتب التاريخ والأدب المعتمدة، في محاول لتوثيق إسنادها، واستنباط فقهها بشكل لم يبلغه أحد من الدارسين من قبل ووضع الدراسة تحت عنوان "توثيق بانت سعاد في المتن والإسناد".
وبعد عرض المؤلف لنبذة عن حياة الشاعر كعب بن زهير ونشأته، ولمختلف الروايات التي وردت في القصيدة يخلص إلى أن قصيدة (بانت سعاد) صحيحة ثابتة – إن لم تكن بالإسناد الموصول كما عند بعض العلماء – فبالإسناد المرسل والمرسل حجة عند جمهور العلماء، لا سيما إذا اعتضد بما يدل على صحته، كتعدد طرقه، وألفاظه، وتلقي العلماء له بالقبول، وعدم النكير".
إلى ذلك يقدم المؤلف في كتابه هذا نقداً هاماً لقراء قصيدة (بانت سعاد) من العلماء المعاصرين ومنهم الدكتور عبد العزيز المانع الذي نفى أن تكون القصيدة إسلامية، ويخصص بحثاً لنقد النقد، وموارد القصيدة في كتب اللغة والتاريخ والفقه، وترجمات القصيدة، ونماذج من معارضات القصيدة مع عرض للقصيدة كاملة كما جاءت في ديوان كعب بن زهير، يتلو ذلك توثيق أبياتها وشرحها.
