في تاريخ الأدب العربي قصائد مفردة اشتهرت شهرة واسعة واتخذت كل فريدة منها صفة أو لقباً صار علماً عليها، وكان ذلك دأب العرب منذ جاهليتهم، ومضوا على هذا السنن في عصور الأدب المختلفة بيد أن قصيدة كعب بن زهير التي توجه بها إلى الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم ليعلن إسلامه وتوبته عن كفره وعن تهجمه على الإسلام والمسلمين، وقد لقيت من الشهرة والذيوع ما لم تحظ به قصيدة أخرى في تاريخ الأدب العربي، نظراً لجلالة من وجهت إليه، وسمو المناسبة التي قيلت فيها، واقبل الشعراء يحتذونها، والباحثون يكبون عليها تحليلاً وشرحاً على اختلاف مناهجهم في القديم والحديث، وصارت الحاجة ملحة إلى رصد التأثيرات المتباينة التي أحدثتها هذه القصيدة الفريدة في ما بين أيدينا من تراث، لنحدد معالم هذه التأثيرات ونتبين الوجهات التي سارت فيها، وتقوم جهد أصحابها في ميزان البحث العلمي.
هذا ما سعى إلى تقديمه الدكتور "السيد إبراهيم" في بحثه هذا الذي هو في الأصل رسالة للماجستير. وفيه (أي البحث) عرض المؤلف كثيراً من الشروع التي لم يتعرض لها أحد من الباحثين، ومن ثم عنى بدراسة عناصر التأثير والتأثر في القصيدة (البردة) فعرض بذلك لموضوع فني على جانب كبير من الأهمية في حياة أدبنا العربي، ثم تتبع الباحث أثر القصيدة في شعر المدائح النبوية في المشرق والمغرب. وبذلك يكون الباحث قد استكمل كل الجوانب التي يمكن لباحث أن يلم بها في دراسته لهذه القصيدة الفريدة.
