"أبصرت طريقاً ثم أضعته، فكأنما شيء من خيالٌ جاء في خاطري فطاف بي لأتبعه، بيد أن الحقيقة تنأى وأنا سائر جوّاب أحلام... وإذا بي أصل إلى رجل ساجد في خشوع تام... طال سجوده حتى ظننت أنه لا يقوم، ثم اعتدل من سجوده جالساً فبدا لي وكأنه قد ملأ الأفق لدى استوائه. وصفدت الغلاة من حولنا على سعتها. عجبت لما رأيت. ثم سلم الرجل وحيث همس " بالسلام عليكم" تحركت الرمال عصفاً، يميناً ثم يساراً، وما أن هاجت الأرض لسلامه حتى سكنت، وكان شيئاً لم يحركها! جلل الخوف قلبي لما رأيت من أمره، فلزمت مكاني. التفت نحوي ثم قال: تم معي لنصلّي على الميت. تلعثمت بالرد، واختلف علي ما ذكر فسألته: وأي ميت؟ فلم أكن أرى سواه، وحسبتني الميت لشدة ما بي من خوف. أجاب: ها هو ذا! مشيراً إلى نعش كان أمامه، قد لفّ صاحبه بقماش أخضر اللون، طرز بآيات من كتاب الله. قلت: رحمه الله! ثم قمنا نصلي عليه. ما كدت أحرك رأسي للسلام يميناً، حتى غاب النعش من أمامي! سألت الرجل: أين النعش؟ أجاب: مالك تسأل عن مصير النعوش، أوشكاً في وجهتها؟ لم أنبس بحرف. أردف: صار إلى هذا.. ثم أخذ حفنة تراب وقال: أتحسب أنك في حلم؟ هذه الحقيقة! ورماني بقبضة تراب وهو يضحك. قلت:مفزوعاً: حسبك يا أخي قد روعتني! قال: أما يكون الأجدى أن يروعك طول إجتراحك السيئات! أفقت من منامي هذا وأنا أردد عالياً: طول إجتراحي السيئات.. طول إجتراحي السيئات.. دخل عليّ أخي، فقد أيقظه صوتي وسأل: ما بك؟ أجبته: هو حلم.. حلم..عد إلى نومك. بقيت هنيهة ثم رحت أبحث عن ماء أشربه،وأنا أحدث نفسي بأن ما رأيته ما كان حلماً. عندما عدت إلى فراشي جلست على طرفه أفكر، وإذ بي أسيّر يداً من فوق الفراش لأجد جانباً منه قد تناثر عليه تراب!!"
عندما تقرأ "توبة وسليى" تأخذ نفسك بالإنعتاق شيئاً فشيئاً لتدخل في فضاء ضبابي، تسرح فيه حيث عالم يتماوج بين الوهم والحقيقة، بين الواقع والأسطورة، عالم لطيف جميل نسجته إبداعات كاتب، صنع من الحكاية رمزاً، يشي للقارئ بأشياء ومعاني هي خلف السطور.
