أفي كل عام يجيء الخريف، ترف السنونو على بيتنا، وتخطف من خبزنا زادها، تسافر مثل السطوح الطيور ولا نرحل، ويمضي الزمان ويأتي الزمان، ونحن مع العطر لا نرحل. وما زلت رغم الأسى والفراق أحسك في بيتنا يا أبي تجيء إلينا مع المغرب أشم أشم ثياب الرجال وأبحث من عطرك الطيب فما زلت أشعر أني صبي أشاهد في كل وجه أبي، وما زلت ألجأ عند الظلام، وفي كل يوم تهب الرياح، أنام على صدرك المتعب، أفر إلى حضنك الأرحب، فأشعر أني ملكت الزمان. وأشعر أني ربحت الرهان، وفي كل عرس تضاء الشموع، أسامر وجهك بين الجموع، تحدق في أوجه الراقصين وتمسح عن وجنتيك الدموع!.
