يعد هذا الكتاب مرجعاً ثرياً لمن أراد الدنيا و الآخرة وردد (ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة و في الآخرة حسنة) وقد قسم الكتاب إلى أربعة أقسام: الجزء الأول من بداية الكتاب حتى كتاب الصيام. والجزء الثاني من كتاب الصيام حتى فضل صلة الرحم. الجزء الثالث من فضل السعي على الأرملة واليتيم والبنات والأخوات حتى كتاب فضائل القرآن. الجزء الرابع من فضائل القرآن إلى آخر الكتاب. واتبع المؤلف رحمه الله منهجاً في ذلك تمثل في: حذف الأسانيد و الاكتفاء بذكر راوي الحديث, عزا الحديث إلى مصادره, حكم على جملة من الأحاديث ونبه إلى علة الحديث إن كان به علة.
هو محمد بن عبد الواحد بن عبد الرحمن السعدي المقدسي الأصل الصالحي الحنبلي أبو عبد الله الحنبلي, عالم بالحديث, مؤرخ من أهل دمشق مولداً و وفاة, كتبه الأحكام و فضائل الشام و مناقب أصحاب الحديث.
