هذا الكتاب مخصص للتدريس لطلاب الفرقة الأولى بكلية الآداب وعندما يكون الحديث متصلاً بقضايا العالم العربي، فلا مفر من أن يكون حديثاً انتقائياً مثل هذا... وكان مجال الاختيار واسعاً وميادينه متشعبة، فما أكثر تلك القضايا النابعة من طبيعة الواقع الاقتصادي والسياسي والاجتماعي والفكري للعالم العربي... وما أعمقها تاريخاً، وتنوعها جغرافية... وقد صنفت موضوعات هذا الكتاب-بعد إعدادها-إلى قسمين رئيسيين، الأول عام، وهو يشتمل على سبعة فصول: الفصل الأول يتناول المثل القانونية بشأن حقوق الإنسان، بينما يتناول الفصل الثاني "اللغة" باعتبارها مقوماً فكرياً للكيان العربي، وهو من تأليف أ.د.لطفي عبد الوهاب، أما الفصل الثالث فهو من إعداد أ.د.حلمي خليل ويختص بموضوع التخطيط اللغوي وتلوث اللغة... ونظراً للأهمية البالغة لمشكلات الأمن الغذائي، والمياه، والبترول في العالم العربي فقد خصصت لها الفصول: الرابع، الخامس، والسادس، التي قام بتأليفها أ.د.عيسى إبراهيم، ويأتي الفصل السابع والأخير من القسم الأول ليطرح إطاراً نظرياً عاماً لفهم قضايا التنمية في العالم النامي وهو من إعداد أ.د.سامية محمد جابر. وأما القسم الثاني من الكتاب فإنه يطرح بعض القضايا ذات الطابع القومي، ذات الأهمية في عالمنا العربي، حيث يعرض الفصل الثامن قضية (مزارع شبعا اللبنانية، وقد كتبه أ.د.حسان حلاق، ثم الفصل التاسع عن فلسطين والقضية الفلسطينية والذي كتبه أ.د.محمد علي القوزي، فضلاً عن إعدادٍ للفصل العاشر والأخير الذي كتب بعنوان مشكلة جنوب السودان.
