رافق إعداد هذا الكتاب المرحلة التي وضع فيها قانون الانتخاب على المجهر في الفترة الإعدادية لانتخابات سنة 2000، إلا أن ما أخر طبعه أكثر من عني من أكثر جهة تخوفاً من إثارة انعكاسات في هذه المرحلة الدقيقة من تاريخ لبنان. ولكن الطرح المتكرر لمشروع القانون الرامي إلى تخفيض سن الاقتراع من 21 سنة إلى 18 سنة جوبه باعتراضات وافتراضات بمعظمها غير علمية وتحكمت فيها هواجس وتخوفات فيما أن الجداول تثبت أن نسبة المسلمين في الفئة من عمر 18 إلى 21 تبلغ 75% مقابل 25% من المسيحيين لنفس الفئة، ولكن في حال ضم هذه الفئة إلى إجمالي الناخبين الحالي فإن التوزيع يتغير بنسبة 1% فقط مما يعني أن الفارق موجود وهو الأمر الذي يقتضي مناقشة أصلاً وهذا ما توخته هذه الدراسة التي سعت إلى تقديم قراءة ديمغرافية للطوائف في لبنان.
