يجمع هذا الكتاب بين طياته باقة فواحة بالعواطف، وهي بعض ما قاله عدة من مشاهير شعراء كربلاء القدامى والمعاصرين في رثاء أبي عبد الله الحسين عليه السلام، وتسهيلاً لقراءة هذه القصائد فقد تم تبويبها وتنسيقها في هذا الكتاب بحسب حروف الهجاء. ويقول السيد سلمان آل طعمة في مقدمته لكتابه هذا أن ما حفزه إلى إخراجها في هذا الكتاب سببان: أولاهما: لأن القصائد التي قيلت في رثاء شخصية فذة هي شخصية الإمام الحسين بن علي عليه السلام الذي ضحى بروحه وأرواح أهل بيته وصحبه من أجل الحفاظ على العقيدة الإسلامية. وثانيهما: أحب أن يطلع عليه شباب جيلنا الحاضر ليتخذ من ثورة الحسين عليه السلام دروساً وعبر.
