يحتوي هذا الكتاب على باقة أرجوانية عطرة من الخطب الحسينية التي واكبت مسيرة الحسين عليه السلام وأهل بيته عليهم السلام من المدينة حتى العودة إليها بعد الفاجعة المريرة، وقد تميزت هذه الخطب بخصائص مشتركة أهمها ما يلي: أ-التأثر الواضح بروح القرآن الكريم والفاظه البليغة البديعة وتوشيح معظم هذه الخطب بالآيات القرآنية الباهرة، الدالة على الحق الدافعة للباطل. ب-استهلال الخطب بإثبات العقيدة الحقة، ثم الانتقال إلى التشريع القديم ضمن إطار من المعاني والألفاظ المناسبة للمضمون. جـ-تلاحم المواضيع والأفكار وانسجامها، بحيث ترتبط مع بعضها البعض بطريقة رائعة من التدرج المثير للبّ السامع. د-ذخر الخطابة بالأمثلة، والعبارات، المستقاة من واقع حال البيئة الاجتماعية والدينية آنذاك.
