من سخرية "حاجة الإنسان إلى الأرض" حيث يبدو لك أنه الأب الودود يشفق على أبناء الفناء من مطامعهم ومطامحهم وأقصى حاجتهم من الأرض ذراع في ذراع!
إلى سخرية "دستويفسكي" الشيطانية العابثة في أقصوصته "زوجة رجل آخر" حيث يبدو لك أنه يمسك ببطله المسكين و"يلعبه كالأراجوز" في غير شفقة ولا مرثية!، ولكن في غير لؤم ولا موجدة كذلك! ومن سخرية "سومرست موم" النافذة الجارحة في أقصوصته "الزوجة الثانية عشرة" حيث يبدو لك كأنما يشرّح جثث أبطاله في لذة عميقة، محاولاً أن يكشف عن مواضع النقص في نفوسهم، هازئاً بالهالات التي تحيط بها الإنسانية نفسها، من المثل والمبادىء والفضائل.
إلى سخرية "توماس هاردي" المتشائمة الكامدة في أقصوصته "لإرضاء زوجته"، حيث لا ينكر الفضائل ولا المثل. ولكنه يرى وجه الحياة الكامد الحزين، وتصرفات القدر القاسية المتجهمة مع الحياة والأحياء. إنه يسخر من الحياة نفسها، حين يسخر سومرست موم من الأحياء. وإلى جانبهما سخرية "زفايج" ذات الشواظ الحامي والشاعرية الحارة. السخرية التي تصور القدر جلاداً للنفس الحساسة الشاعرة في "رسالة من امرأة مجهولة".
وأخيراً تجد أقصوصة "الدخلاء" لهكتور هيومنرو الملقب بالساقي (ساكي)... إنها تذكرني بأقصوصة تولستوي "حاجة الإنسان من الأرض"... ولكن لا... إن في "تولستوي" رحمة النبيين. أما "ساكي" فحين يسخر بمطامح الإنسان ومطامعه ويتركك في ذهول السخرية، وعلى فمه ابتسامة باهتة ليس فيها شيء من الحنان!
