للمشروعات العربية المشتركة أهميتها الاقتصادية-الاجتماعية على المستوى القومي القطري، باعتبارها تشكل اللبنة الأساسية للقاعدة الإنتاجية. لذا فقد اتجه د.عبد الوهاب حميد رشيد لتناول هذا الموضوع من خلال بحث الهدف منه هو معرفة الكيفية التي سارت عليها المشروعات العربية المشتركة في إطار العلاقات الاقتصادية العربية عموماً، والمحاولات التكاملية التي ظهرت في ظلها بصفة خاصة. ولقد أخذ البحث بمنهجية التحليل على المستوى القومي، أي على مستوى قطاعات الاقتصاد العربي، لتوافقها ومفهوم التكامل الاقتصادي. ومن هنا فقد شمل البحث كافة الأقطاع الأعضاء في الجامعة العربية-باستبعاد فلسطين المحتلة وجيبوتي التي انضمت إلى الجامعة عام 1978. إلى جانب ذلك فقد انصب أسلوب البحث على التحليل الكمي. اعتماداً على أحدث المصادر الإحصائية المتاحة. والتي تركزت بصفة خاصة في تلك الصادرة عن المنظمات الدولية والمؤسسات العربية.
