"مكتوف أشارك بحواسي ما يحدث... أشياء سريعة عبرت بي إلى عهد الطفولة... صغر جسمي... تساقطت ملابسي، لم يبق منها إلا (شورت) قصير يصل إلى منتصف الساقين، و(فانيلة) بلا أكمام تبرز نتوء عظامي. سيارتي استحالت دراجة هوائية خادية العجلات، شعر لحيتي أسود بياضه، واستدق، ثم تساقط طرقات متربة، وجدران طينية في حارتنا القديمة حيث يكثر الذباب والتراب وأصوات الشعرة المنهك بالعمل مختلط بصوت المذياع، كنت وقتها منكمشاً في فراشي المتحجر ألتحف بقايا حلم لذيذ يحاول الإفلات. في ليالي الصيف ننام في السطوح لا يجرؤ على إيقاظنا إلا الآباء، واليوم جمعة يبدو وهذا من صوت المذياع الذي أخذ يتسرب إلى أذني رخيماً بصوت الشيخ عبد الباسط يرتل قصار السور من إذاعة البحرين التي حفظنا برنامجها الصباحي، فبقية الوقت نعلق جهاز (تراتستور) على الجدار الطيني، ثم نظل نلعب الكرة لا تحذر شيئاً إلا أن ترتطم الكرة بباب ابن خلفان الذي ينام دائماً في دهليز داره... يعدو خلفنا متوعداً وإزارة المرتخي يعيق حركته، فتفر منه بيسر متضاحكين ليعود محمحماً شاتماً الصغار، يخرج تهديده من فمه المفتوح كاشفاً عن سن وحيد وصغر وهو يقوى: والله العظيم لأشق كرتكم بالسكين" حكايات كثيرة وهموم أكثر يحاول القاص فهو المصبح أن يختزنها أو يخرجها من تلك الذاكرة ليضعها على دفاتره، يحاورها ويناقشها ولا يجيدها على الانصياع له، فهي ليسعف ملكه يحاول أن يصنع شخصيات ترضيه وترضي القارئ ولكنه لا يجبرها أبداً، إنما يعطيها مطلق الحرية في التفكير وتقرير مصيرها تماماً كما الحياة.
