لا يوجد من كتاب البديع في الجبر والمقابلة للكرجي سوى مخطوط واحد محفوظ في مكتبة الفاتيكان بدلالة Barberini Orientale 36.1 وهو يضم 131 ورقة و 13 سطراً في الصفحة وحجمه 18.6سم في 13.0سم ومجال الكتابة فيه 16.5سم في 9.5سم.
والمخطوط مكتوب بخط نسخي واضح وفيه على الصفحة 3 أسماء من انتقلت إليهم ملكة الكتاب وجلّهم من الحُساب، ويظن الأستاذ ليفي دللا فيدا أن أحدهم وهو عبد الرحمن بن شيخ الشيوخ قد يكون صاحب التصويبات والإضافات التي أدخلها كاتب ثان على المخطوط، ولا نرى هذا الرأي لكثرة الفروق الموجودة بين كتابة بعض الحروف من جهة وبين هيئة الخطين العامة من جهة أخرى، وقد تفضل حضرة الأب عمانوئيل دللي، نزولاً عند رغبتنا وراجع المخطوط فنفى كذلك أن يكون التصحيح من يد ابن العطار الحاسب وهو أحد مالكي الكتاب الذين ورد اسمهم في الصفحة 3.
يحوي المخطوط تصحيحات وإضافات كثيرة من الناسخ نفسه ومن ناسخ ثان ويفرق بين الناسخين الخط والحبر، وخط الناسخ الثاني بعيد كل البعد عن الجمال، يضاف إلى ذلك تصحيحات طفيفة عديدة من إياد متنوعة وبدل الإمتحان أن مجمل هذه التصحيحات صائبة تعيد النص إلى حقيقة أصله وقد نشرها في النص دون ايما إشارة، إلا أننا وضعنا بين قوسين الإضافات الطويلة المنسوبة إلى الناسخ الثاني بصفة واضحة أكيدة.
ويلاحظ أن المصححين في أكثر الأحيان إذ يبدلون حرفاً بآخر في كلمة خاطئة فإنهم يتركون نقاط الحرف الأولى دون محوها، وثمة حروف ينقصها التنقيط سيما حرف المضارعة الذي أخطأ الناسخ مراراً في تنقيطه فجعله للتذكير حيث يلزم التأنيث.
وقد اثبتنا النقاط الناقصة دون الإشارة إلى ذلك إلا فيما كان فيه فائدة وكذا فعلنا بالهمزة فقد اثبتناها على الإجمال بغير تنبيه، ثم انا احتفظنا بكتابة الأعداد كما وردت: ثَلَث، ثَلَثين، ماية...
