يعد كتاب "شفاء الغرام" لتقى الدين الفاسي المكي بأبوابه الأربعين، موسوعة لتاريخ وطبوغرافية مكة والأماكن والمواضيع المقدسة بها وما طرأ عليها من تعديل وترميم وإصلاح منذ أواسط القرن الثالث الهجري (تاريخ تأليف تاريخ مكة للأزرقي) وحتى عصر المؤلف في العقود الأولى للقرن التاسع الهجري. كما يستمد الكتاب قيمة أخرى من تعرضه لتاريخ الحجاز السياسي والديني والاقتصادي في ظل حكم سلاطين مصر المماليك. وبالإضافة إلى المادة التاريخية التي أوردها الفاسي عن طبوغرافية البلد الأمين اعتماداً على المصادر التاريخية التي فقد بعضها اليوم، نجده يقدم لنا وصفاً دقيقاً للكعبة المشرفة في بداية القرن التاسع الهجري مشيراً إلى التجديدات التي أدخلها عليها سلاطين مصر المماليك وعلى الأخص معاصر الفاسى السلطان الناصر فرج بن برقون (801-815هـ).
ويزيد من أهمية كتاب الفاسي: ما احتوى عليه من نصوص منقولة عن كتب خطية مفقودة حتى اليوم.
