قد يوحي عنوان الكتاب بأنه يقع في إطار المكتبة البلاغية، ولكن مادته تقرر أنه كتاب في الاختيارات النثرية والشعرية، وان منهج تصنيف الاختيارات المودعة فيه قائم على تقسيمات البلاغيين لبعض أنواع الجناس، فهو مبني على ثلاثة أقسام مبوبة: قسم يضم أبواب الاختيارات التي تتضمن جناساً يشبه التصحيف، وقسم يضم أبواب الاختيارات التي تتضمن جناساً صحيحاً تاماً لا تختلف فيه الكلمتان المتجانستان إلا بضبط البنية أو برسم الحرف، وقسم يضم أبواب الاختيارات التي تتضمن جناساً تاماً لفظاً وبنية وخطاً، وهدفه بيان الناحية البلاغية من خلال اختياره للنصوص النثرية والشعرية والأحكام، والأقوال وغيرها.
