جرت عادة المبدعين في سن الشباب، أن يبدأوا التعبير - إبداعاً - بالشعر... يثبتون عليه بعد ذلك أو يتحولون عنه إلى نمط من الإبداع آخر، يرون فيه تحققاً أكبر لذواتهم.
هيثم بودي لم ينح هذا النحو، فاجأني بأن دفع إليّ قصصاً قصيرة مخطوطة متسائلاً: "لا أدري إن كانت تستحق النشر!... توفّرت للأوراق المخطوطة دون هاجس مسبق يفيد بأني سأصادف قصصاً متميّزة، أو مغايرة لما هو سائد... توقفت عند قصص محددة: "الطاعون"، "القصر الأحمر"، "بومباي"، "الخماري". عودة إلى الكويت/الكويتيين.. أيام زمان. التاريخ-بعيداً عن التوثيق والتسجيل، من خلال رؤيا واقعية، تتسم بالشفافية والحيادية.
الرصد، بناء الشخصية من خلال تنامي الحدث، ريثما بلوغ نهاية القصة، مما يولد-لدى المتلقي-قناعة.. أن الكاتب يتقن استخدام الحد المطلوب من الأدوات الفنية اللازمة لإبداع النص.
الحرص على حضور المكان والزمان بصفتهما المشتركة: أحد أهم عناصر تأكيد هوية النص وواقعيته، ومن ثم تحديد طبيعة انتمائه.
سلاسة القص الذي يتخذ سمة العفوية، والنكهة التي أسبغها اللجوء إلى الاقتصاد باستخدام اللغة المحكية في إدارة حوار الشخصيات.
(النخيل) جهد أول لكاتبها.. ولا يسعني-بمناسبة صدروها-إلا أن أشد على يده، مطالباً إياه، في الوقت نفسه، بالمزيد من العطاء، وبذل الجهد بالتجويد والتجريب.
