خلق الله الإنسان في أحسن تققويم وعلمه ما لم يكن يعلم، فمن رضي بما قسمه الله عاش عيشة راضيةً فعبد ربه وشكر له فضله. والإنسان يتطلع إلى الخير محاولاً الإستزادة منه ما وجد إلى ذلك سبيلاً. كما إنه يسعى إلى معرفة أحوال الغيب وما قد يحدث له في غده.
ومن هنا كان إهتمام الإنسان الأول بالفلك والكواكب يستنطقها ويراقب ظهورها وأفوالها لما لها من تأثير عليه. وقراءة الكف لا تخرج في غايتها وهدفها عن هذا إذ تعد علماً جديداً نسبياً، يختلف في حقيقته عن تلك العلوم المبنية على الخرافة والأساطير، كقراءة الطالع وما يقوم به الفوّالين والغجر. فعلم الكف أو علم اليد يحاول معرفة وتحديد الخطوط والعلامات والنتوءات في الكف أو اليد، التي تدل على شخصية صاحبها ومكن من قياس الإختلافات الروحية للأشخاص، وهو علم يقوم على التجربة والمشاهدة.
وقد إكتشف العلماء المتخصصون في علم النفس والأعصاب والدماغ، أن الخطوط التي تظهر في اليد، وجدت فيها عند الولادة، وإن لها إرتباطاً بالأعصاب والفروع العصبية وهي تتغير بتغير الأفكار والميول الروحية والقلبية، وتتخذ أشكالاً معينة حسب تلك التغيرات. كما إكتشفوا وجود رابطة خفية بين العقل الباطن والحياة الظاهرية. وهي تبدو بشكل جلي في خطوط اليد التي تولدت عن هذه الرابطة.
