في مجموعتها الشعرية هذه، تستخدم "تهاني فجر" آليات صياغته متينة تحيل من خلالها الهامش على المتن، لتصنع تمردها الخاص، بكثير من البوح الأنثوي، فتنجح في تذويب الفكرة في جسد النص. في "وطن هه أكاد أن أضحك" محاولة لتحرر الذات من كل ما يعوق التواصل مع وطنها الأصلي، فتبرز ما بين السطور مفردات تؤشر إلى تصادم ذات الشاعرة مع الهوية الأصلية، والوطن القديم، "أيها الوطن كن إثمي لأشتهيك..." هي قصائد تتنوع في مضامينها ودلالاتها، ورؤاها تعيد "تهاني فجر" انتاج معانيها برؤية انتقادية ساخرة تعري بها الواقع، والمقولات الثابتة التي كبلت وأسرت الناس "في زمن متأخر جئت/ من ظل وخوف ممزوجين/ وفي أمكنة الضيق كبرت../ بحثت في الحقد عن معنى للذنب/ فما وجدت العطب/ وما وجدت القلب". أما في القصيدة التي حملت المجموعة اسمها فتقول:
"وطن/ هه أكاد أن أضحك/ الغربة عود ثقاب/ -وأنا- لغافة تبغ/ وأملي مصاب بالغثيان/ الحبَ: أن تحطَ/ ذبابة/ على كعكة قلبك/ أيها الموت:/ كن جديراً بي/ الجنس كذبة مرقطة/ كلنا تراب".
يضم الكتاب ثلاثة وعشرون قصيدة جاءت بعناوين مختلفة منها: "رذائل الضوء"، "رؤيا"، "سبع كبائر عجاف"، "سدرة المنتهى... الخ".
