ليس الغرض من هذا الكتاب تأريخ المسيرة العمرانية أو الإجتماعية لبلدة الشوير، وإنما يرصد المؤلف فيه نبض الحياة في هذه البلدة عبر ملف مصور يوثق حياتها وعمرانها ومظاهرها الإجتماعية والفردية في فترة زمنية تمتد من العقد الأخير للقرن التاسع عشر إلى مطلع الستينات من القرن الماضي. حيث يتوزع هذا الملف المرئي على مصادر ثلاثة: الأول يشكل الأكثرية الساحقة من الصور المنشورة في هذا العمل وتعود لمصورين شويريين. والمصدر الثاني يعتمد على البطاقات البريدية التي تعود إلى مصورين لبنانيين وأجانب نشطوا في بيروت، وأصدروا بطاقاتهم وتنافسوا في ما بينهم لنشرالعديد من المناظر للأماكن المشهورة ولمراكز الإصطياف. أما المصدر الثالث فيعتمد على الصور الشخصية بأسلوب cartes de visite)) أو صور العرض (cabinet portrait) التي التقطت في الشوير أو في المغتربات لمهاجرين شويريين بلباسهم التقليدي. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك تناول المؤلف في فصلين الخلفية العمرانية التاريخية الثقافية والإقتصادية للبلدة، وما يعرف عن المصورين وأساليب التصوير لوضع الصور في مسارها التاريخي التقييمي المفيد.
وبناءً عليه، تكوَن الكتاب ثلاثة أقسام: القسم الأول عبارة عن لمحة تاريخية مقتضبة للأوضاع الإقتصادية والإجتماعية والثقافية للبلدة خلال النصف الأول من القرن العشرين. القسم الثاني يضم معلومات عن المصورين الشويرين. القسم الثالث والأخير هو مجموعة مختارة من الصور مبوَبة حسب المواضيع، فأفرد لها الأقسام التالية: مناظر طبيعية، مباني قديمة، وجوه باللباس التقليدي، قبضايات، مناسبات عامة (الأعراس والمآتم) وفنادق الخ.
