نقرأ في قصص لؤي عبد الإله تنويعاً مختلفاً للإغتراب النفسي والوجداني ، تجسده شخصيات تنتمي إلى القاع الإجتماعي ، وتعيش في واقع قاسي ، وفي هكذا حالة ، تلوذ الشخصية إلى الأحلام ، وتخلق عالماً بديلاً مناقضاً ، لما هي عليه ، تساعدها ذاكرة تقف على الخط الفاصل بين الحلم والحقيقة ، هكذا هي " حال حسين " بطل قصته " أحلام الفيديو " الهارب من قسوة أبيه وشتائمه البغيضة ، إلى رسم حياته كشريط فيديو له القدرة على صياغة الماضي وفق رغبته ، إذ بالإمكان تبديل أحداثه لحظة وقوعها ، ثم توثيقها كما يشاء . ومع " الفيديو " يصبح الماضي بالنسبة لحسين صناعةً أكثر من كونه حقيقة ... ومع " الفيديو " يرى نفسه إنساناً ناجحاً يستحق إعجاب من حوله " لقد أثبتت مجرى الأحداث صحة أفكارك " ، ويقول آخر بانفعال غريب ، " لهذا السبب قررنا اختيارك قائداً للمنظمة " ثم يقول ثالث ، " كان موقفنا تجاههك خطأً استراتيجياً " ، فيجيبه الأول " كنا دوغمائيين " .
تحضر هذه الصور ومثيلاتها في معظم قصص المجموعة ، في سياق لإثبات الإنفصام بين الذات الداخلية ، وإبدالها المرئي ( الواقع المعيشي ) بكل ضراوته وقسوته على أناس من لم تمنحهم الحياة أية فرصة للنجاح .
