وُلدَ في بيروت عام 1930 .
في العام 1950 ، نال شهادة 'بكالوريوس علوم' في الأدب والتاريخ من الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، وشهادة أستاذ في العلوم من الجامعة نفسها عام 1953 .
إلى جانب نشاطه التعليمي في الجامعة، وفي الإنترناشيونال كولدج التي احتلّ فيها موقع مدير الدروس العربية، صدرت للكاتب، حامل وسام الأرز الوطني اللبناني، مؤلّفات متنوّعة منها: 'الرائد'، وهو معجم لغوي أدبي نال عنه جائزة أصدقاء الكتاب في لبنان عام 1965 ، و 'المحيط في أدب البكالوريا' في جزئَين، و 'لبنان والنهضة العربية الحديثة'، و 'وليّ الدين يكن'، و 'جدّتي'، وغيرها.

في هذا الكتاب معجم لغوي عصري للطلاب، رتبت مفرداته وفقاً لحروفها الأولى، وتضمن آلاف المصطلحات الجديدة، من حديثة وقديمة، مما لم تتضمنْه كتب اللغة، وقد اعتمده عدد كبير من المدارس غير الوطن العربي...
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب بعد دراسة دقيقة سبر بها المؤلف الطاقات اللغوية والثقافية عند الطالب، وخلص منها إلى تصفية الممات من المفردات، أو النادر إستعماله، وإلى تبسيط المعاني حتى تلائم السن والإدراك، وإلى الإبقاء على كل ما قد يمر به الطالب في المرحلتين الإبتدائية والتكميلية، وحتى الثانوية إلى حدّ، وقد أضاف المؤلف إلى الطبقات المتتالية من المعاني والألفاظ ما تتحفنا به لغتنا الفصحى الحية المتطورة، وقد تضمنت هذه الطبعة: "المترادفات": مجموعة من الألفاظ المترادفة معزّزة بالشواهد، "قاموس الحيوان": يشتمل على أسمائها، أولادها، أصواتها، بيوتها، جموعها، "لوحات تعليمية": 1-دورة الماء في الطبيعة، 2-جسم الإنسان، 3-مجموعات الطعام الأربع، 4-طبقات الأرض، 5-خريطة العالم، 6-أعلام دول العالم؛ "معلومات عامة": 1-دول العالم، 2-أطوال أنهار العالم، 3-أعلى القمم الجبلية في العالم، 4-الزلازل.
بدا لنا ان نخص الناشئة بأخ "للرائد" صغير، يكون ألصق بحياتها وأدعى إلى تلبية حاجاتها، فوضعنا "رائد الطلاب" بعد دراسة دقيقة سبرنا بها الطاقات اللغوية والثقافية عند الطالب، وخلصنا منها إلى تصفية الممات من المفردات أو النادر إستعماله.
