وُلدَ في بيروت عام 1930 .
في العام 1950 ، نال شهادة 'بكالوريوس علوم' في الأدب والتاريخ من الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت، وشهادة أستاذ في العلوم من الجامعة نفسها عام 1953 .
إلى جانب نشاطه التعليمي في الجامعة، وفي الإنترناشيونال كولدج التي احتلّ فيها موقع مدير الدروس العربية، صدرت للكاتب، حامل وسام الأرز الوطني اللبناني، مؤلّفات متنوّعة منها: 'الرائد'، وهو معجم لغوي أدبي نال عنه جائزة أصدقاء الكتاب في لبنان عام 1965 ، و 'المحيط في أدب البكالوريا' في جزئَين، و 'لبنان والنهضة العربية الحديثة'، و 'وليّ الدين يكن'، و 'جدّتي'، وغيرها.
Book Description
"الرائد" هو الجديد في سلسلة معجم الرائد والتي صدر منها "الرائد" (الطبعة المكبرة) و"رائد الطلاب"، و"الرائد الصغير" والتي تأتي لخدمة لغة الضاد والناطقين بها والباحثين فيها على اختلاف أعمارهم وتفاوت ثقافاتهم. ويحمل هذا المعجم الكثير من الجديد، فثمة كلمات وشروح أضيفت إليه وفقاً لمقتضى التطور العلمي والحضاري مع مراعاة نسبتها العربية الصحيحة، وقد بلغت مع ما سبق من مفردات حوالي 60,000 مفردة، كما ضمت إليه ملاحق يطلّ من خلالها الباحث على آفاق واسعة في اللغة والأدب والمعارف.
كما اشتمل هذا "الرائد" على "معجم أعلام المورد" وهو المصدر الأوثق والأكبر في بابه لما يقارب ستة آلاف علم القدماء منهم والمحدثين. وقد تمّ تقديم ترجمة موجزة لكل علم، تفي بحاجة طالبها، ليكون هذا الكتاب مرجعاً أولياً يهتدي القارئ بهديه على أسرع وجه، مع ركونه إلى صحة المعلومات.
الرائد معجم ألفبائي في اللغة والأعلام:
* رُتبت كلماته وفق الطريقة الألفبائية السهلة والحديثة.
* يُسهِّل على الباحث الاهتداء إلى معاني الكلمات ويشرحها بوضوح وإيجاز ويشرحها بوضوح وإيجاز.
* رُقِّمت معاني الكلمات فيه لتسهيل عملية البحث عن المعنى المراد.
* دُعمت المعاني بالأمثلة والشواهد لتعميم الفائدة.
* أُضيف إليه ما استجدّ من ألفاظ صحيحة النّسبة إلى العربية.
* يضمّ بين دفّتيه أكثر من ستين ألف مفردة.
* أضيف إليه ملحق مصوّر خاص بالأعلام يحتوي على أكثر من خمسة آلاف وثلاثمئة علم.
* يشمل أيضاً ملاحق أخرى (مثل أوزان الشعر، بلدان العالم...).
