تختلف دوافع الناس في الكتابة في أي موضوع، فمنهم من يكتب بدافع البحث عن الحقيقة، ومنهم من يبحث ويحلل، ويناقش ويستنتج، ليدعم ما يؤمن به مسبقاً، وآخر يكتب لحالة عاطفية دخلت قلبه فأحبها وأخلص لها. والدراسة في هذا الكتاب تنبع من محبة المؤلف لصاحبها، إذ منذ طفولته وهو يرى مقاماً جميلاً وصرحاً عظيماً، يتربع على قمة بلدته يقصده الناس من مناطق مختلفة وأديان متعددة، تبركاً به وإيفاءً لنذورهم، غير أنه لم يكن يعلم شيئاً عنه سوى أنه نبي من أنبياء الله تعالى، يدعى شمعون بن حمون الصفا عليه السلام، أو سمعان بطرس... وبعد اطلاعه على بطون الكتب والمراجع القديمة تبين له أنه رأس الحواريين وأمير الرسل... ومالك مفاتيح السماوات والأرض... والصخرة التي بني عليها المسيح بيعته، كما جاء في الإنجيل.
وهو "ثالث ثلاثة" في سورة يس، وصاحب "الأمة المقتصرة" في القرآن الكريم... وهو صاحب السر الخفي وإليه تنسب ملكية بنت يشوعا ابن قيصر ملك الروم، أم المهدي المنتظر محمد بن الحسن عليه السلام. وبالرغم من الأهمية والمكانة التي يتمتع بها هذا الرجل إلا أنه لا يوجد كتاباً جديداً واحداً مختصاً في كتب المسلمين والمسيحيين على حدِّ سواء، يتحدث–بطريقة ترضي الباحث–عن هذه الشخصية العظيمة، لذلك عني بوضع هذه الدراسة المعنونة بـ"شمعون الصفا بين المسيحية والإسلام" وقسمها على فصول وأبواب، مراعياً التسلسل التاريخي والأمانة النقلية قدر المستطاع، فتحدث عن نشأته وإيمانه وجهاده وسجنه وهجرته ومواقفه وشهادته وكراماته وقبره ومقامه، كما تعرض للحديث عن موضوعات أخرى لها علاقة متينة بموضوع البحث كموقف المسيح عليه السلام من الظالمين، وعن بولس الرسول ومواقفه المناهضة لشمعون الصفا، وعن النبأ العظيم الذي ظهر في مخطوطات قمران، وغيرها من موضوعات هامة.
