كان أهل الكتاب وأتباع الإبراهيمية على موعد مع الرسول الجديد الذي يفتح الجزيرة المفتونة بعبادة الأصنام ويحولها إلى عبادة الله الواحد الديان ووُلد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فهش لمولده الرهبان ورحبوا بالرسول الجديد وبعد النبوة تعنت الكثير من أهل الكتاب وطالبوا بأدلة كثيرة ولكن أدلتهم علمية وأسئلتهم دينية بخلاف المشركين الذين كانوا يعز عليهم ترك عادات وتقاليد آبائهم. وأسلمت الجزيرة بعد ثورة إعلامية وثقافية وبإسلام الجزيرة تداعى حولها ممن لهم دين وخضعت المنطقة بأسرها لرسالة التوحيد.
والتقى أهل الأديان السابقة مع الدعوة الجديدة من خلال طريقتين الأول الدخول في الإسلام وخصوصاً بعض الأكابر كعبدالله بن سلام والطريق الآخر هو بقاء أهل الكتاب من يهود ونصارى على دينهم والتزامهم بشروط المواطنية وبعض الضرائب التي تعادل الزكاة. وبعد وفاة النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم اختلفت الأمة وانقسمت إلى قسمين الأول جماعة السقيفة والتيار العشائري المتماسك المعبر عنه بطون قريش، والثاني أهل البيت بنو هاشم ويرأسهم الإمام علي الوصي الشرعي للنبي محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم بحسب رأي الشيعة الإمامية، ومن يقرأ التاريخ الإسلامي يلحظ أن النصارى وخصوصاً كبراءهم وعلماءهم يتعاطون مع أهل البيت عليهم السلام مع أنهم ظلوا على نصرانيتهم، كما أنه يشاهد في تاريخنا المعاصر نماذج من الكُتاب تكتب في أهل البيت عليهم السلام وتؤلف مؤلفات ما استطاع الشيعة عبر عصورهم أن ينتجوا مثل هذا النتاج شعراً ونثراً وفلسفة وأدباً وتحليلاً للتاريخ وفهماً للنصوص ومحاكمة للكتاب والمؤرخين عالم خلف عالم وعلامة بعد بحاثة وهكذا المرء يحار أمام هذه الظاهرة.
ما هو السبب الذي جعل المسيحيين وعلماءهم يهيمون في أهل بيت النبوة عليهم السلام وينشدون فيهم الأشعار الجزلة والفخمة ويحللون أيامهم وثقافتهم كأحسن ما يكون على أمير المؤمنين. حول هذا الموضوع يدور البحث في هذه الدراسة التي بين أيدينا والتي يقدم فيها المؤلف لمعة مختصرة يبين فيها الأسباب التي جعلت المسيحيين يحبون أهل بيت النبي عليه الصلاة والسلام والدوافع الكامنة وراء حماية علي (ع) للمسيحيين قانوناً وسلوكاً وتطبيقاً، كما ويشرح المؤلف في هذه الدراسة موقف الإمام العادل مع المسيحي العادي من الناس، وموقف الرهبان النصارى من الإمام علي عليه السلام.
