"بيروت يا بلد التمني، يا دوحة الطير المغني، يا غادة لا تحرم العشاق من سحر التثني، يا وردة حمراء تزهو رغم أشباح التجني، يا قلعة صدت طغاة الشر من إنس وجن، يا بسمة لمعت على شفة الزمان المطمئن، غني كما غنيت للأجيال في زمن التهني، قولي لمن شاء التباعد والفراق إليك عني، أنا زهرة حسناء لا أهوى سوى من جاء مني، أنا للزمان قصيدة رويت على إيقاع لحني".
بكل جوارحه يكتب أمين اللادقي في هذا الديوان حبه لمدينته، وبلا تذمر أو منن، بادلها الحب والغرام بيروت بالنسبة له عروسه الشرقية السمات، منبت الوحي والإلهام والتي لم يجد سواها بديلاً. ديوانه هذا حديقة غنّاء، متنوعة الألوان والأزهار والرياحين، لكل باب فيه طعمه الخاص ومذاقه الطيب المميز، أبياته مشاهد حية، تروي حكايات الأمس الغابر، حكايات بيروت الخير والمحبة والألفة.
