من العنوان "أميّ" يسلمك نزار سيف الدين المفتاح لقراءة نصه، ويجعله المدخل إلى عمارته القصصية، وإضاءة ممراته، فتدخل معه طوعاً في لعبة القراءة وتشترك معه في فهم النص، وتفسيره، وفق دلالةٍ معينة تتنامى في السرد القصصي، وبما هي مؤشر على القيمة العلائقية التي تُربط الكاتب / الإنسان بأمه "كانت جوهرة لا تقدر. أما في لحظات صفائها وما أكثرها فكانت تملك مقدرة عجيبة في جعل هذا الكوخ جنة حقيقية تملأها فرحاً وحبوراً وسعادة ..."، هذه الثنائية الكائنة بين الراوي وأمه تحيل إلى أن نزار سيف الدين لا يرى ذاته إلا من خلال علاقته بأمه، ولتكون شرطاً للإبداع على أنواعه، وسواء عكست قصص سيف الدين حالة خاصة أم عامة، فإنها تشكل في النص المكتوب علامة وجود ودلالة تتمظهر بوصفها صورة مكتملة، ونهائية، وكأن ما ينقص الذات / الكاتبة يوجد في صورة الأم المدركة في وعي الكاتب وخطابه الروائي.
وكما عودنا دائماً نقرأ في كتابات نزار سيف الدين فكراً حياً ينبض بالحياة يرفض الخضوع للقهر والخنوع، في قصصه بوح الروح، وكلماتٍ شفافة تقرب من الهمس بعيداً عن الصخب وقساوة الأيام "سنوقظ الليل، وسنحكي الحكايات ونغني بعض مطالع أغنيات ونرقص في الساحات .. إذ لا يعقل أن تتوقف الحياة، رغم قعقعة السلاح ...". إنها كلمات مرهفة، من التعابير الإنسانية العميقة تنم عن جزالةٍ في الكلمات، ورنين بين الحروف حيث الإرتقاء بالنفس إلى ما عانته بلاده من حروب أهلية.
يضم الكتاب ستة عشر قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "أمي" ، "ذو الشعر الأحمر" ، "معلمي" ، "الراقصة" ، "زوجة ثانية" ، "محاولة قتل" ، "اللوحة الأخيرة" ، "إختيار" ، "المتسول" (...) وقصص أخرى.
