وقد جاء هذا الكتاب ليسدَّ فجوة علمية كبيرة في مجال التعريف بالبرامج الإرشادية وخطوات تنفيذها، والإشكاليات التي تثيرها، فقد اطلع المؤلف على أدبيات البحث في مجال البرامج الإرشادية في البلاد العربية، فلم يجد كتاباً واحداً تناول هذه البرامج نظرياً أو تطبيقاً، وإن حَوَت بُطُون الكتب بعض النماذج الإرشادية المختصرة لبعض المشكلات، إلاّ أنها وضعت بشكل مختصر في كثير من الحالات.
ويتضمن هذا الكتاب تسعة فصول هي التالية: الفصل الأول تناول بالدراسة والتحليل البرامج الإرشادية، مفهومها وأهدافها، وأسسها، وعالج الفصل الثاني أشكال البرامج الإرشادية وتصنيفاتها، بينما تناول الفصل الثالث المتطلبات الأساسية في بناء البرامج الإرشادية، أما الفصل الرابع فركّز على الخطوات التنفيذية للبرامج الإرشادية.
بينما تضمن الفصل الخامس برامج الإرشاد المدرسي الشاملة، أما السادس فتناول الرؤى حول برامج الإرشاد المدرسي الشاملة، وتناول الفصل السابع المعايير الخاصة برامج الإرشادي النفسي المدرسية الشاملة، أما الفصل الثامن فتناول دور المرشد المدرسي في التصدي للأزمات الطارئة في المدرسة.
أما الفصل التاسع فعالج التحديات التي تؤثر على نجاح برامج الإرشاد النفسي الشاملة، أما الفصل العاشر والأخير فتناول آليات تقييم وتقويم برامج الإرشاد النفسي.
