لماذا باريس السبعينات؟... شهدت سبعينات القرن الفائت الحرب اللبنانية التي أفقدت بيروت دورها كمنبر إعلامي للعالم العربي، كما شهدت عزلة القاهرة عربياً بعد الصلح المصري - الإسرائيلي، ما سمح لباريس بإستعادة دور طالما لعبته في كل مراحل التأزم في مسيرة الثقافة العربية منذ مطلع عصر النهضة، لدورها المتوسطي من جهة، ولأنها كانت دوماً عاصمة الحريات في العالم.
وساعد على لعب هذا الدور الهجرة الصحافية العربية إليها، وبخاصة اللبنانية، كهمزة وصل بين الشرق والغرب من جهة، وبين المشرق والمغرب العربيين من جهة ثانية.
وهكذا شهدت باريس السبعينات نشاطاً ثقافياً، على الصعيد العربي، كان مادة مقالاتي في صحيفة "النهار العربي والدولي" في باريس كبديل عن "ملحق النهار" في بيروت، حتى مطلع الثمانينات.
وقد جمعت غالبية هذه المقالات في كتابين صدر أولهما العام 1982 بعنوان "مشاهدات ناقد عربي في باريس"، عن "دار الباحث"، والثاني عام 1983 بعنوان "لقاءات شخصية مع الثقافة الغربية"، عن "الدار العالمية" في بيروت.
كتابي هذا هو مقتطفات من الكتابين السابقين عما يبقى كشهادة عن تلك المرحلة الباريسية في مسيرة الثقافة العربية، التي انتهت مع عودة الصحافة المهجرية إلى الوطن.
