أمام النقد الملحوظ لكتاب التاريخ القديم بصفة عامة ،وكتاب التاريخ المغاربي بصفة خاصة في المكتبة العربية ،واستجابة لرغبة كثير من الطلبة،الذين ألحوا علي مرارا،لنشر المحاضرات التي كنت ألقيها على طلبة السنة الثانية ليسانس "تاريخ " بجامعة الجزائر ،دونت هذا الكتاب الذي يعرض المحاضرات التي ألقيتها على هؤلاء الطلاب في الفترة مابين 1986-1990. الكتاب موجه إذن لهؤلاء الطلبة في الأصل ، كما هو موجه للجمهور المثقف عامة ،ولهواة التاريخ منه خاصة ،ولهذا رعيت فيه الحرص على شرح المادة التاريخية بالقدر الذي تسمح فيه ضرورة الإختصار .
