كان أصل المراد من هذا الكتاب عند ابتداء المؤلف "حسن بن علي السقاف" في تصنيفه هو تخريج أحاديث الرؤية وتتبعها حديثاً والرد على ابن قيم الجوزية ومجسمة الحنابلة في دعواهم تواتر أحاديث الرؤية، ثم لما فرغ من التخريج وعرضه على بعض أهل العلم، طلبوا منه أن يعقب هذا البحث بذكر الآيات الواردة في هذا الموضوع وقضيته رؤية سيدنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لله تعالى ليلة الإسراء، فأجابهم تحقيقاً لطلبهم، فجاء بحثه هذا على الترتيب المذكور.
